Zaanse Schans and Volendam Tour
Day trip 2: Historic Dutch handicrafts and musea at the Zaanse Schans and old fisherman’s village Volendam.
Zaanse Schans and Volendam (Windmills and Fisherman Village)
This trip is all about typical historic crafts and artisans.
First, we take you to the Zaanse Schans where you can see the old (still working) windmills and go to different museums. Maybe the best part is when strolling down the Zaanse Schans, you’ll encounter various different artisans and are able to glance over their shoulder while performing their crafts. You don’t want to miss out on the clog shop, cheese factory or the Delft blue decorative style.
When you’re done exploring the Zaanse Schans you can walk out on your very own wooden shoes and feel like a true historic Dutchmen (or woman) when we drive to Volendam. There is plenty to do in Holland’s bests known fishing village and you’ll have free time to decide how you want to spend your time. Take a look at the handsome old harbor filled with old Dutch ships. Here you are also able to take a boat trip to Marken where the inhabitants built their houses on poles and knolls.
You can learn more about Volendam in one of its museums or have your photo taken wearing traditional Volendam clothes. Of course, you also don’t want to miss out on the local fresh fish so ask our guide about the best places to get a well-deserved meal, after all, that historic and cultural exploring. When you’ve filled your belly and your legs are tired, the guide will bring you safely back to Amsterdam
